  I found a way to play this song live by changing the
  tuning on some of the strings. By watching vids I
  could see what Edge was playing but it didn't sound
  right to me - these tuning seem to work for me though
  I'd be intersted to hear other opinions. Start with
  standard tunings and drop the low E to D, the 2nd string
  - tune up 0.5 step to C and third string tune up a
  whole step to A.

  Basically the verses are this Dm chord arpeggiated
  with these 5th fret harmonics.
  
  Then the piano, then Bono sings:
  'And don't look back, for here I am...'
  
  Hold the note with an e-bow to get violin effect
  listen to get the timing. Remember the string is
  tuned to D.

  Stop using ebow before striking D5 chord.
  Hit the D5 chord a few more times then hit an open low D
  and whack the back of the neck of the telecaster hard
  making the string bang on the frets. I can see him
  doing this on the video - pretty violent stuff actually.

  That's it. I'm pretty sure about the retuning thing -
  from watching the vid it's the only way to get the
  harmonics right, also Edge only uses his telecaster
